Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a familiar term that describes a condition of the wrist in which the median nerve, the main nerve that provides feeling to the palm and fingers, becomes compressed. In addition, it also is responsible for providing the motor control of some of the muscles of the thumb. Signs of carpal tunnel syndrome can include numbness, pain and tingling in the wrists and hands, and thumb muscle weakness.
