What problems can eyelid surgery correct?
Eyelid surgery is performed to target imperfections around the eye area caused by aging, environment and facial movements. Excess or inelastic skin around the eyelid, bags around the eyes caused by herniated (bulging) fat, and the resulting tired, sagging appearance can be corrected with this procedure. Eyelid surgery may be performed along with a brow lift for dramatically younger-looking results.
Am I a good candidate for eyelid surgery?
Good candidates for eyelid surgery are healthy men and women who wish to reduce certain signs of aging around the eye area. Patients with certain medical conditions such as dry eye, high blood pressure, diabetes or thyroid disorders may need further evaluation and treatment before surgery.
What is the difference between upper and lower eyelid surgery?
During an upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Riley will remove excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. During a lower blepharoplasty, Dr. Riley will remove excess skin and fat from the lower eyelids. If the lower eyelid has lost significant tone, a tightening procedure (cauthopexy) may be indicated as part of the blepharoplasty. Both are intended to help patients appear more rested by decreasing puffiness and droopiness. Choose from an upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, or combine both procedures for a total eye makeover.
