Breast Augmentation in Sugar Land, TX
Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery offers a variety of breast augmentation options to the residents of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas.
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation (mammoplasty) is the process of inserting implants to enlarge the breasts, balance disproportionate breasts, or restore breast fullness.
Women often turn to breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, to enhance their body shape and improve their self-confidence. Breast implants are also used in certain types of breast reconstruction for women who have survived breast cancer. For breast augmentation procedures, Dr. Stapenhorst uses two types of implants – silicone and saline. Women must be at least 22 years of age to receive silicone implants for cosmetic breast augmentation. These implants are silicone shells filled with silicone gel. For women who are at least 18 years of age, saline implants are available. Like silicone implants, saline implants have a silicone shell, but saline implants are filled with saline instead of silicone gel.
Common Reasons for Breast Augmentation:
- Loss of breast shape or fullness due to weight reduction, aging, and/or pregnancy
- Unbalanced breast-to-hip ratio
- Inconsistent breast size or shape from natural development, mastectomy, or injury
- Lack of body confidence
Is breast augmentation right for me?
Dr. Stapenhorst can restore your bust line or give you the breasts you’ve always wanted. Many of our clients’ breasts have lost shape or fullness due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. Other clients have misshapen or disproportionate breasts due to irregular natural development, mastectomy, or injury. Some clients have long been frustrated with the look and fit of their clothing, especially in swimsuits, and seek a more balanced, eye-catching figure. If you would like to feel more confident both in and out of your clothing, let Dr. Stapenhorst show you how transformative breast augmentation can be.
How does Dr. David Stapenhorst perform the breast augmentation procedure?
Breast augmentation is performed with a general anesthetic so the patient will be asleep during the procedure. Dr. Stapenhorst will either make incisions in the fold underneath the breasts or around the lower half of the areola. The placement of the incisions depends on the individual patient. The implants are then inserted through the incisions and placed in pockets that are created either under or on top of the chest muscle. Dr. Stapenhorst then closes the incisions with dissolving stitches placed under the skin. The breast augmentation procedure typically takes one to two hours. If the breast augmentation is for reconstructive purposes or if the case is especially complex, Dr. Stapenhorst may require more time to complete the surgery.
When can normal activities resume after the breast augmentation procedure?
Dr. Stapenhorst requires that his breast augmentation patients limit their activities for three to five days after the surgery. Patients should avoid sleeping on their stomach for three weeks and excess activity and heavy lifting for six weeks after the surgery.
Is there any pain associated with the breast augmentation procedure?
Some of Dr. Stapenhorst’s patients report mild discomfort and swelling after the breast augmentation procedure. He will prescribe pain medication to help keep the patient comfortable during the healing period. Dr. Stapenhorst will provide the patient with a post-operative surgical bra to wear as the breasts and incisions heal. Further information on breast augmentation recovery can be found with our partnering plastic surgeons.

How Long Is The Recovery After Breast Augmentation?
Following the breast augmentation procedures, patients can expect their breasts to be tender or swollen for up to a week after surgery. It is recommended that women take one to two weeks off of work or school in order to aid the recovery. The first few days should be limited to minor activity and plenty of rest. Results can usually be seen after the first month and will continue to improve as the breasts heal. Dr. Stapenhorst can provide a prescription for pain management medication to help alleviate any discomfort. During your consultation and following the procedure, Dr. Stapenhorst will advise of any additional guidelines or recommendations you may need to follow.
