Breast Implants in Sugar Land, TX

Women with naturally small breasts may be self-conscious about them and desire implants to add volume. Dr. David Stapenhorst performs breast implant surgery on patients from Sugar Land, Houston and the surrounding areas of Texas, allowing them achieve the look they desire.

What are breast implants?

Breast implants are devices inserted into the breasts to increase their size. These implants may be filled with saline (saltwater), or silicone (a gel-like substance with a consistency similar to natural breast tissue). Breast implants come in a variety of sizes and configurations to help achieve the desired appearance. Breast implant surgery is typically performed as a day surgery in a hospital setting under general anesthesia.

Benefits of breast implants

Women who undergo breast implant surgery will have larger, fuller breasts. This is beneficial for women with naturally small breasts, or for women who have lost volume in their breasts as they have aged.

How is breast implant surgery performed?

After arriving at the hospital, patients are prepared for surgery by a nurse and then brought to the operating room where they are put to sleep by an anesthesiologist. Once the patient is asleep, the patient is draped for surgery. Dr. Stapenhorst will begin the procedure by making one of the following incisions:

  • Inframammary – along the crease at the bottom of the breast
  • Periareolar – a semi-circular incision along the lower portion of the areola

The incision location will be decided upon prior to surgery and will be based on the patient’s anatomy and the type of implant used for the surgery. After making the incisions, the next step is to create a pocket for the implants to sit in. This is done in one of two positions:

  • Subglandular – underneath the breast tissue but on top of the chest muscle
  • Submuscular – between the chest muscle and the rib cage

The type of pocket Dr. Stapenhorst creates will also be determined prior to surgery and will depend on the patient’s anatomy. After creating the pocket, the implant is placed inside and adjusted as needed. Once the implant is in place the incision will be closed with dissolvable stitches that are placed under the skin. The chest is wrapped in a bandage before the patient is awakened from anesthesia and taken to the recovery room.

Preparing for breast implants

You will be given pre-operative instructions during your consultation. Please follow these instructions carefully. You may be asked to refrain from smoking or taking certain medications, and will be required to fast for a certain amount of time leading up to your procedure.

Breast implant surgery will require you to limit your activities for a few weeks afterward. Arrange for someone to help you with household chores and to drive you home from the hospital once you are released.

Breast implant surgery recovery

The initial bandages will remain in place until your first post-operative visit. Once the dressings are removed, a support bra can be very helpful in eliminating discomfort. Typically, patients report moderate discomfort and swelling after the procedure. Dr. Stapenhorst will prescribe medication to help treat post-operative pain. You may also take over-the-counter medication like Tylenol to help alleviate swelling and discomfort.

Limit yourself to only light activities for the first week or two. Gradually increase your activity level until you are functioning normally again. This should take approximately four to six weeks.

How much do breast implants cost?

This is a question that can only be answered during your consultation, as there are a number of variables to consider. We accept cash, personal checks,  ajor credit cards and CareCredit® financing to make breast implants easier to afford.

Are breast implants right for me?

Dr. Stapenhorst can help you look and feel your best with breast implants. Women who have had breast implants report feeling more attractive and confident after doing so. If you are unhappy with the shape or size of your breasts, breast implants may help you.
