Chin Surgery in Sugar Land, TX

Chin surgery, or mentoplasty, is increasing in popularity, and residents of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas, who are looking for the highest quality care for chin surgery turn to Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery. The chin plays a vital role in helping the face appear balanced. Patients who undergo nose surgery often have chin surgery at the same time to help improve facial proportion. Injuries to the chin can also affect the appearance of the face, and chin surgery may offer a reconstructive option. Chin surgery typically requires the reshaping of the bone, fat and skin of the chin, but Dr. Stapenhorst may also recommend the use of chin implants.

What happens during the chin surgery procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?

General anesthesia is used for the chin surgery procedure. Dr. Stapenhorst will either make an incision under the chin, along the lower jaw bone, or in the mouth between the lower lip and gums. From these incisions, he will work to reshape the bone and soft tissue. If an implant is used, it is typically placed through an incision in the lower lip or under the chin. Once the desired result is achieved the incisions are closed with sutures.

When can normal activities resume after the chin surgery?

Typically, patients who undergo chin surgery are able to resume most normal activities within a few days of the procedure. Dr. Stapenhorst advises his patients that the lower lip may feel temporarily numb following the procedure. Patients should exercise caution when eating or drinking until the numbness disappears. If an incision is made in the mouth, the patient must maintain a liquid or soft food diet for a few days while the incision heals.

Is there any pain associated with the chin surgery procedure?

Dr. David Stapenhorst advises his patients that they may experience some discomfort after the chin surgery procedure. He may prescribe pain medications to help keep the patient comfortable. Patients may be required to elevate their heads while lying down to help with the swelling. If an incision is made inside the mouth, patients are required to rinse their mouths after eating to keep the sutures clean.
