Ear Surgery in Sugar Land, TX

Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery offers Ear Surgery to the residents of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas. Dr. Stapenhorst recommends Ear Surgery, or Otoplasty, to his patients who have lost or damaged parts of their ears due to injury, and for children and adults who suffer from ear deformities. Dr. Stapenhorst may also recommend Ear Surgery to patients who have torn or stretched their earlobes due to piercings. Patients who wear heavy earrings or who have their piercing placed too low on the earlobe are susceptible to stretching and tearing their earlobes.

What happens during the Ear Surgery by Dr. David Stapenhorst?

Dr. Stapenhorst may use either a local or general anesthetic for Ear Surgery. The type of anesthesia used depends on the extent and type of repair. The location of the incision is determined by the type of Ear Surgery that Dr. Stapenhorst is performing. For patients who are having surgery to correct prominent ears the incision is typically made in the skin behind the ear. If there are missing areas on the ear, as is the case with some ear injuries, Dr. Stapenhorst uses the existing cartilage to reshape the ear. If the earlobe has been stretched, Dr. Stapenhorst removes the excess skin from the earlobe. If the earlobe has been torn, Dr. Stapenhorst sutures the earlobe together.

When can normal activities resume after Ear Surgery?

Dr. Stapenhorst advises his patients that normal activities may resume seven days after Ear Surgery. Children who undergo Ear Surgery should limit their activities for three weeks after the surgery.

Is there any pain associated with Ear Surgery?

Patients who undergo Ear Surgery typically experience pain, numbness, headaches, swelling and itching after surgery. Symptoms typically resolve within a couple of weeks after surgery.

Dear Patients,

I am announcing the closure of my practice, Signature Plastic Surgery. Effective December 31, 2022, I
will be moving on to a new practice opportunity. I have enjoyed serving the people of Sugar Land since
2008. This has been a difficult decision for me to make, but I am looking forward to the new
opportunity, and I know that I will look back fondly on the past 14 years.
