Eyelid Surgery in Sugar Land, TX
Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery offers eyelid surgery to the residents of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, helps to correct drooping and sagging eyelids. When the eyelids droop or sag, the eyes look more tired. The condition also causes eye fatigue as patients exert more energy to keep the eyes open in order to see properly. Depending on the individual case, Dr. Stapenhorst may perform eyelid surgery on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both.
Before After
What happens during the eyelid surgery procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?
Dr. Stapenhorst develops an individual treatment plan for each patient. The treatment plan may include the removal of skin, fat or both. A combination of local anesthesia and general anesthesia are used to help keep the patient comfortable. Several techniques may be used, depending on the goals of the procedure. Typically, for the upper eyelids, an incision is made in the crease of the eyelid. For the lower eyelids, the incision is made close to the lower eyelashes. The excess fat and skin are removed, and the incisions are closed with sutures.
When can normal activities resume after the eyelid surgery procedure?
Dr. David Stapenhorst recommends that his patients who undergo eyelid surgery keep their heads elevated and rest for a few days after the procedure. Because some patients may experience blurry vision immediately after the procedure, patients should take extra care when walking or conducting other activities. Some patients find that their eyes are sensitive to light immediately after the procedure. Makeup should be avoided for the first week after surgery.
Is there any pain associated with the eyelid surgery procedure?
Patients who undergo eyelid surgery may experience some discomfort and swelling after the procedure. Patients also report feeling a tight sensation around the eyes, as well as bruising and swelling. The bruising should resolve within seven to ten days, and the swelling should resolve after several weeks. Dr. Stapenhorst may require the patient to use cold compresses on the eyes.
