Gynecomastia in Rosenberg, TX

Many men live with gynecomastia, a condition that causes breast buds or enlarged breasts. Men in Rosenberg, Texas can seek the services of Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery to help them gain confidence and a more attractive physique.

Gynecomastia can affect men and boys of any age. Newborns can experience temporary gynecomastia caused by the presence of the mother’s estrogen in the body. Breast buds disappear by the time the infant is six months old. Estrogen-producing tumors may also be responsible for breast buds developing in pre-teen boys. Hormonal changes in teenage boys during puberty can cause gynecomastia. For adult men, medical conditions and certain prescription drugs can lead to increased breast size.

What Happens During a Gynecomastia Procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?

During a gynecomastia procedure, Dr. Stapenhorst will place the patient under general anesthesia. If the procedure requires the removal of fat and skin, Dr. Stapenhorst will make an incision around the areola and nipple. After the incision, the excess skin and fat will be removed. The nipple will then be repositioned to create a natural-looking chest. If the procedure only requires the removal of fat, liposuction will be utilized to remove fat through non-invasive suctioning. During the liposuction procedure, a cannula is inserted underneath the skin and deposits of fat are broken up and sucked away.

When Can Normal Activities Resume After a Gynecomastia Procedure?

Men who undergo a gynecomastia procedure are advised to avoid activities that may cause any strain or excessive force on the chest. Patients can resume regular activities when the incisions have fully healed. The healing process takes two to six weeks in total.

How Long Is The Recovery After Gynecomastia?

Following the gynecomastia procedure, up to two weeks should be taken off of work. If your profession requires strenuous activity or heavy lifting, more than two weeks will be required. During the recovery period, a compression bandage will be worn over the chest to support the tissue as it heals. You may experience soreness, bruising, tenderness, or swelling. Dr. Stapenhorst will advise of any special restrictions or guidelines that should be followed.
