What is an IPL® FotoFacials?
An IPL® FotoFacial is a series of “intense pulsed light” treatments designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. IPL® treatments can dramatically improve the appearance of freckles, age spots, spider veins, sun damage, enlarged pores, redness and flushing (Rosacea), and irregular pigmentation. The treatments can also minimize wrinkles around the eyes, lips and forehead. IPL® is quick, safe and effective with no downtime. You can resume normal activities immediately. After each treatment, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even tone.
Who benefits from an IPL® FotoFacial?
As most of us age we begin to see small but visible signs of sun damage appearing in our complexion. The signs may include freckles, broken capillaries, dark spots, a blotchy skin color and redness of the face and neck. IPL® treatments can be used to treat vascular redness, pigmented brown spots, sun damage, and collagen structure all at once. With the use of this exciting new technology, dramatic improvements can now be accomplished with little or no “downtime” and with very minimal discomfort. IPL® FotoFacials can be used in an anti-aging program in people as young as 20 years old.
What does the skin look like after an IPL® FotoFacial?
Immediately after treatment the area will feel somewhat warm and appear pink in color. Occasionally, there can be some mild swelling and bruising. Brown spots on your skin may darken before they flake off or your body may simply absorb them. These usually resolve rapidly and are easy to cover with make-up. Most patients can typically return to work immediately after treatment.
What is a treatment like?
Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. After treatment, the skin cleansed and a sunscreen is applied. Pain is minimal; however, tropical anesthesia can be used for maximum comfort. For sensitive skin, a cool compress is applied following treatment.
How many treatments are needed?
In order to achieve maximum results different patients will require different numbers of treatments depending on the extent of the sun-damage or pigmentation changes. Typically, patients will require between 3 and 5 treatments with at least 4 weeks in between sessions.
