Laser Skin Resurfacing in Sugar Land, TX

Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery offers Laser Skin Resurfacing to the residents of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas. Laser Skin Resurfacing, also known as a laser peel, laser vaporization or lasabrasion, uses laser energy to remove damaged layers of skin. Laser Skin Resurfacing is an effective treatment for small imperfections on the skin, such as scars, wrinkles and acne. While the laser is removing a layer of the epidermis, the heat from the laser stimulates collagen growth. The new collagen helps give the skin a fuller, smooth, even appearance.

What happens during the Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?

Dr. Stapenhorst applies a topical anesthesia before the Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure. The topical anesthesia numbs the skin and helps the patient remain comfortable during the procedure. He may also provide the patient with a sedative. General anesthesia is typically used in cases where Laser Skin Resurfacing is being performed in conjunction with other procedures. The face is cleansed, and the patient’s eyes are covered with special goggles. Dr. Stapenhorst applies the laser in short bursts. When Dr. Stapenhorst is satisfied with the results; he covers the treated areas with a special dressing.

When can normal activities resume after the Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure?

Dr. David Stapenhorst advises his patients that they must limit their activities during the healing period. Patients must also apply saline or a diluted vinegar solution to the treated areas two to five times each day. Patients who undergo laser skin resurfacing must use sunscreen when they are outdoors.

Is there any pain associated with the Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure?

Patients describe the Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure as being similar to snapping the skin with a rubber band. After the procedure, the skin feels mildly sunburned. Dr. Stapenhorst advises his patients that they may experience stinging, itching, redness and swelling after the procedure. As the skin heals, it will feel raw. The skin will ooze a yellow fluid, and blisters may form on the treatment areas. The yellow fluid will crust. Patients must not scratch the yellow crust; this will cause scarring. Approximately five days after the procedure, the skin will begin to dry and peel.
