Mommy Makeover in Sugar Land, TX

Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery offers the Mommy Makeover procedure to the women of Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas. Women often turn to a Mommy Makeover after the birth of a child, when they are unable to obtain the body that they had prior to the pregnancy. Breast augmentation is a big part of the Mommy Makeover. For the breast augmentation part of the Mommy Makeover, Dr. Stapenhorst may use one of two types of implants – silicone or saline. Silicone implants are a silicone shell filled with silicone gel while the saline implants are a silicone shell filled with saline fluid. Some women might also benefit from a breast lift to elevate the position of the nipple on the breast. In addition to breast procedures, other procedures such as a tummy tuck or liposuction are also typically performed during a Mommy Makeover.

How does Dr. David Stapenhorst perform the Mommy Makeover procedure?

Mommy Makeovers are performed with a general anesthetic which means that the patient is asleep during the procedure. Dr. Stapenhorst will make breast incisions in the breast fold or in the areola to put the implant in the breast cavity. These may be altered depending on the patient. All incisions are closed with dissolving stitches. If there is a liposuction or tummy tuck included in the Makeover procedure, there are additional incisions and stitches included. Once all the procedures are concluded, the patient has bandages placed for healing and is placed in a post-surgical room until they wake up. The length of a Mommy Makeover varies greatly depending on the number of procedures done and the complexity of the surgery. Women should be in good overall health and not smoke prior to the surgery so that they have optimum healing after the surgery is completed.

When can normal activities resume after the Mommy Makeover procedure?

Depending on the extent of the procedures performed Dr. Stapenhorst prefers that his Mommy Makeover patients restrict their daily activities for a minimum of five days following the surgery. Those having this procedure should avoid sleeping on their stomach for approximately three weeks and excess activity such as exercising and lifting of more than ten pounds for six weeks after the procedure. For the best results, patients need to have someone stay with them for the first 24 hours after the surgery so they can rest and relax, giving the body ample time to heal.  Most patients return to desk job type work in two weeks.

Is there any pain associated with the Mommy Makeover procedure?

Some of Dr. Stapenhorst’s patients report having mild discomfort and swelling after a Mommy Makeover procedure. Because of this, he may prescribe a medication for the pain to help keep the patient comfortable. Dr. Stapenhorst provides his patients with a post-operative surgical bra and a post-operative body garment to wear as the breasts and incisions heal.
