What happens during the Rhinoplasty procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?
Dr. Stapenhorst performs Rhinoplasty using a general anesthetic so the patient is completely asleep and comfortable during the procedure. The surgical incisions are made inside of the nostrils and on the bottom portion of the nose, giving Dr. Stapenhorst access to the bone and cartilage that make up the support structure of the nose Dr. Stapenhorst carefully plans out an individualized approach for each patient. He may remove or reshape the bone and cartilage, scar tissue may be removed, or tissue may be added to some areas of the nose. The tissue added to the nose may be from the patient, or it may be made of a synthetic material. Once the nose has been reshaped, the skin is placed over the nose, and the incisions are closed. A surgical packing is placed inside the nose, and a splint is placed over the nose to hold the bone in place while it heals.
When can normal activities resume after the Rhinoplasty procedure?
In general, Dr. Stapenhorst recommends that his patients who undergo Nose Surgery rest at home for two to three days. During that time, patients do not need to remain in bed. Patients should make an effort to move around the house and elevate their heads while in bed. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least two weeks. This not only allows the nose to heal properly, but safeguards the patient from any injuries to the nose.
Is there any pain associated with the Rhinoplasty procedure?
Patients will feel a sensation of puffiness around the nose and face after the surgery. The nose will be swollen and tender for several days after the Nose Surgery. Some patients have black eyes. Most of the swelling resolves after 10 to 14 days. Cold compresses can be applied to the nose to help control the swelling.
