Tram Flap Breast Reconstruction in Sugar Land, TX

Breast cancer survivors in the Sugar Land, Texas, and Houston, Texas areas seek the high quality care of Dr. David Stapenhorst of Signature Plastic Surgery for TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction surgery. TRAM stands for Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous. It is a method which utilized the patient’s own tissue to reconstruct the breast after a mastectomy, or breast removal. Mastectomies are typically performed on women who are being treated for breast cancer. Dr. Stapenhorst supports these cancer survivors by helping them regain their sense of femininity after having lost one or both breasts in their fight against breast cancer.

What happens during the TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction procedure by Dr. David Stapenhorst?

Based on the individual case, Dr. Stapenhorst performs one of several TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction surgeries. One procedure is the pedicled TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction. For this procedure, a section of skin and tissue from the abdomen is rotated into the breast area to reconstruct the breast. The blood supply to the reconstructed breast remains attached at the abdomen. For the free TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction procedure, Dr. Stapenhorst first isolates the blood vessels that supply the tissue in the abdomen used to reconstruct the breast. He the completely removes the skin and tissue from the abdomen. The blood vessels to the TRAM flap are then connected to blood vessels in the chest using a microscope. Other TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction techniques used by Dr. David Stapenhorst include both a pedicled and free muscle-sparing TRAM flap.

When can normal activities resume after the TRAM Flap Breast Reconstruction procedure?
